The story

an ex that had come back into my life, and i let him in, reluctantly at first - and then without any reservation. only to be met with the same stupid boy that i had known, years before. i was more mad at myself for believing him, again, than anything...and then i gave myself some grace, and realized that wanting "what we could have" was my childhood fairytale and never going to happen - not because of me, but him. to know that, get validation of it, helped me let him go...and i no longer wondered, what if...

Lyrics

we could have

Trying to forget
What I've always known
Wonder why we met
When I'm still alone

Stupid me for thinking you might of
Changed your ways
Stupid me for feeling like you could of
Grown up – no longer afraid
Grown up – no longer afraid

Stupid me for letting down my guard
Had to tell you, couldn't wait
Didn't think I would end up this sad
Stupid me for thinking
Of what we could have

You say you just flow
Try to avoid any friction
But I think you just go
Don't want any commitment

I can admit it
I jumped
Couldn't wait for the fall
I jumped in
Not thinking
I wanted it all

Stupid me for thinking you might of
Changed your ways
Stupid me for feeling like you could of
Grown up – no longer afraid
Grown up – no longer afraid

Stupid me for letting down my guard
Had to tell you, couldn't wait
Didn't think I would end up this sad
Stupid me for thinking
Of what we could have

I thought maybe someday
You would walk through my door
I would be the one you would call home
I would be the one you couldn't let go
